California's Compassionate Use Act (CUA) can be a defense to transportation of marijuana, a violation of Health and Safety Section 11360.  However, the marijuana must be carried by a qualified patient who must associate with like persons to collectively or cooperatively cultivate marijuana within a legitimate dispensary.
